Acupuncture
"Needles, TENS, of photo therapy all have their place."
By: Dr. Victor Jean Ouellette,
DC, MS, DNM, RNP, Cert. Acup.
Acupuncture has been around for thousands of years. The concepts of a life-force were formulated by ancient
people who did not know about science, or very much about how the body worked. And so, acupuncture today still
teaches these ancient concepts. This life force has never be shown to be something real, but the concept are still
used by traditionally trained acupuncturists. Acupuncture meridians, the channels that the life force is said to
flow around, have never been shown to exist either but, ancient theory uses these concepts to build a system of
health care around.
Acupuncture points on the body do appear to be different than surrounding skin. Research is ongoing on
acupuncture and its effects. Pain relieving effects appear to be from stimulating the body's production of
endorphin like compounds that are somewhat like morphine and have pain relieving effects. Many acupuncture points
are over nerves and this may account for the electrical properties of acupuncture points being different than
surrounding skin. Nerves are like wires carrying electricity. That electric flow would have an effect on the
surrounding tissues at points where nerves came close to the surface, or where one nerve might cross another.
We have been providing acupuncture in different forms, using light, electricity and needles since 1984.
